Quality Operations Manager

The Quality Operations Manager works with the Director of Quality and Patient Safety to lead and manage the work identified by the organization to improve the safety and care of our patients. Is an advisor to all levels of management across the organization for developing and implementingkey strategies in quality, process efficiency, performance outcomes, and sound project management. Is responsible to assure optimal functioning for the day-to-day operations of the department and promotes an environment where staff can meet full scope of competency.

Quality Operations Manager - Regional
Primary focus will be in supporting the hospital systems with which Gundersen Health System has majority control which includes, but may not be limited to: Gundersen Tri-County Memorial Hospital & Clinics, Gundersen Tri-County Nursing Home and Gundersen St. Joseph's Hospital and Clinics.

Major Responsibilities
1. Works in partnership with the Director of Quality and Patient Safety to lead and manage the clinical performance improvement and performance measurement strategies identified by the organization.
2. Manages and coordinates the daily operations to support and ensure the highest level of quality support in a fiscally responsible manner by recommending, developing, implementing and evaluating services, processes and programs that support goals of the organization.
3. Provide strategic consulting and support to operating teams with respect to organizational and department improvement strategies.
4. Partner with organizational leaders in the development of quality & patient safety plans that align with organizational priorities.
5. Work with all levels of management and staff to provide advice, facilitation and support related to project management, process improvement and interpretation of a variety of data and outcomes measures.
6. Assures sound project management and improvement methodologies are used. Assures the impact of the improvement is measured and sustained.
7. Assess, recommend, and implement quality improvement and project management training and change efforts.
8. Serve as a knowledge broker for new improvement methodologies, evidence-based care and processes, innovation and creativity.
9. Manages all human resource functions (interviewing, hiring, retention, performance appraisals, team building, recognition, coaching and discipline). Mentors staff in project prioritization, design, management of transition and change. Supervises employees with some variation in skills and pay including professional and supervisory employees to ensure high levels of productivity. Demonstrates problem-solving, leadership skills, conflict management, and department building skills in order to ensure a productive work environment.
10. May be assigned as project manager for organizational or team initiative as appropriate.
11. Performs other job-related responsibilities as requested.

Education/Learning Experience
Required: 4 year degree in health sciences, business, health/information management, nursing, management engineering or equivalent related work experience.

Work Experience
Required: 5-8 years of progressively responsible experience, in areas related to quality or performance improvement or process redesign, experience in management of large projects or change initiatives.
Desired: Specific work experience in quality improvement project management, work process redesigning healthcare organizations or clinical systems redesign.

Skills/Knowledge
1. Extremely high organization and planning skills. Ability to manage concurrent projects and use effective judgment. Ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
2. Working knowledge of quality improvement methods, processes, and tools.
3. Ability to manage employee performance, daily operations, fiscal performance, and ability to build employee competency.
4. Demonstrated ability in building collaborative relationships, coaching and mentoring others, and building effective networks.
5. Demonstrated analytical skills; analyze complex tasks, systems, and problems and determine possible solutions.
6. Excellent verbal and written and communication skills, engaging in direct, open, honest interaction with a willingness to listen, teach and learn.
7. Demonstrated ability to serve organization as a change agent, as demonstrated by working proactively with leaders to develop the need for change, establish an information-exchange relationship, diagnose problems, create an intent to change, translate the intent into action, stabilize the adoption of the new behavior and prevent discontinuation and achieve a terminal relationship.
8. Strong computer skills to support data collection and transforming data into actionable information.
9. Knowledge of current health care needs and changing health care environment.
